We broke the window to Self Provoked's rap block with his cut Handcuffs. His attentiveness to rap's counter-culture make up shook my ear, reason being we don't hear this in the music anymore due to rap's popularity globally. That flavor Handcuffs came with pales in comparison to the entire palate Provoked's TRIANGLES fleshes out.

Self Provoked's 12-track project is eager to flip over society's underbelly, revealing a system as fallacious. Triangles, I believe, accomplishes this first hand instrumentally.

The beats don't ooze with typical 808s or high-pitched snare rolls. Triangles fuses back in that grittiness, that tear of swing in hard drums. You get relaxed to coked up tempos. Triangles' production finds itself mostly at the bend of known sampler user DJ Nobody, who kicks the majority of this tape's beats with a sonic chip on his shoulder. There is a general hostility sound and energy reverberated from Nobody's instrument(s) of choice. You also get Daddy Kev, Louden and BGH chipping in their sounds to harden Provoked's tales through his resilient raps. Self Provoked lyrically wears his V mask, living in tracks that run through experiences and emotions of being a black sheep, like paranoia in his cut Supposedly. Topics like conspiracy, corruption and a skewed power structure rear its ugly head, all the while paying natural homage to the most dirty time of hip hop, 90's rap.

This is a cold piece of work by a good team of people. People who have juice in hip hop's atmosphere, like Nobody or Daddy Kev. And although sorta late, I'm happy to intro Self Provoked's Triangles to you all.
