Malik Captures Two Titles with Indigo

From here on out, I wanna hear Texas-based artist Malik over chopped beats exclusively. If the song is gonna feel like a lion rising, I only wanna hear Malik's vocals and raps. If the outcome is gonna be within the same orbit as his record "Indigo," then I'll be listening to every drop.

Written and produced by Malik, "Indigo" jumps out on the verge of winning back-to-back championships. A hardwood sample of lowered 70's melodies lace-up the production with a smoothness and finesse that transfer into the action of his springy drums and pliable bass drop-ins. Malik's ensnaring production captures the first title uniquely off surprise when the opposing team never had a game plan for you. And with his verses and hook he repeats with a complete game of skill and dominance.

The "Indigo" artist flows like a Russell Westbrook cradle-the-baby taunt -- shifting the momentum of a direct cadence on words. Displays of clever wordplay and basketball metaphors help paint a short story of a gluttonous dreamer too determined to see anything else, even when his eyes are closed. His flowery Na-Na harmonies with matching melodic keys on the hook carol Malik's highlights through a tone shift in the music. Cap all that off with the reworking of the aforementioned sample to close and you'll hear the hoisting of his second Larry O'brien to snap another classic moment.

Listen to "Indigo" below.
