The Mind is in a rare space for vocals today. It is no stretch of the imagination to think of him being in Justin Vernon, Kanye West inspired lights when it comes to using the voice as your main instrument in a song. And the Chicago artist's THEMpeople-produced song Ice Blue Button is a prime example.

Ice Blue Button sounds sung in vignettes. The Mind's fair vocals sound stripped of everything in search of anything, emphasized through a vocoder, sometimes talk-box sound. His sacrificial lyrics sound as if they were set to the melody, which came first. That melodramatic melody lends itself to his lower half runs and daring vibrato. The Mind's minimal vocals maximize IBB's touch. THEMpeople's peppered percussion, flushing chord progression and empty kicks do their best to keep him in his hopeless journey. The music clashes seemingly as much as it blends, ending in a flow.

Ice Blue Button does more with less. If that was a part of the journey, The Mind accomplished it.
