There is a bit of rap chameleon to the sound of Phantom Thrett's approach to a song. But like a chameleon in camouflage, it remains a chameleon.

In Thrett's new song Distorted he sings the intro chorus under a cloudy inflection, middle-to-high falsetto, with tempo to match a VHS Reggae-influenced drum pattern and bassline. But he gets back to the Phantom Thrett that rhymes off-kilter with bass in his voice bringing words of substance. Phantom's verse is one of hindsight and drops each line like an adoptable mantra, even dropping a line on how he manages it in the real-world amid the craziness of life. However, the Wonderfool artist juxtaposes his hindsight with the distorted path he's taken, a theme I believe manifests as three metaphors: His final line "My train stops here," the abrupt cut of the production, and the train soundbite to outro the track.

Phantom Thrett either knows VHS's production or VHS knows Thrett's rap style because these two's rhythms, tones, etc. are in sync and the product is in the philosophical, leaving me to ask exactly what PT ponders in Distorted, "What does it all mean?"
