Kendrick Lamar, the purview of your genius and classic LP To Pimp A Butterfly is still pressing its thumb on the standard. And I'm glad the talented Mannywellz wasn't one of the many who glossed over that impact.

Mannywellz's Alright - Rendition is a song I thought was an original, until I acutely listened for the work-in of Alright's hook. This rendition feels and sounds like its being played in a lonely church Mannywellz is performing in. The vibrato in his voice sounds like doubt leaving. His hopeful isolation while singing the intro has a sound that reverberates his internal strength. His original lyrics in the melody of Alright focus in more on police killings of black men and women, the singing is from a perspective not of his own but in the grilling of questions being asked. His production hints at being tribal. His clothed bass ground pounds, and his bubble drums get active. Alright - Rendition's teary chord progression comforts. Mannywellz's clock hand tick sound underneath it all puts a time constraint for the answers to these questions.

Mannywellz's Alright - Rendition isn't waiting around. The music is clear with what it wants. And that's all I could ever ask for.

Listen to Alright - Rendition below.
