Vashtie is so important to the culture. The filmmaker x artist x designer x DJ x overall creative force is a phenomenal woman who will go down as an all-time great when it's all said and done, and that greatness has been shared with us in real time with her first mixtape of mostly 90's Rap x R&B, When Thugs Cry.
The only other body of various music that rivals Vashtie's When Thugs Cry mixtape is The Nutty Professor soundtrack, which at times mirror the same songs like Case's Touch Me, Tease Me ft. Mary J. Blige & Foxy Brown. But besides that joint, if there was any 90's R&B song that ever pushed you to the verge of the per year single thug tear it's bound to be on this tape -- from old school joints from Jay Z x Beyoncé, Jodeci, D'Angelo to one of the greatest collaborations from Method Man & Mary J. Blige to new jams from Justin Bieber, Tory Lanez and Frank Ocean. And for my fellow hip-hop heads, there's classic heartfelt joints from the all-time greats Notorious B.I.G, L.L. Cool J, The Pharcyde, Common and GOAT level samples that I'll let y'all discover on your own. It's a straight hour of heat, classic joint after classic joint, with beatmatching techniques to be admired and just an overall great atmosphere of music. Vashtie is GOAT level and the only thing that's left to do is run it.
