I don't know how anyone can say New York isn't killing it or is falling off when it comes to rap -- it's not logical when NY is represented by emcee's like Brooklynite Dillon Cooper. Coop Killa can straight spit. He has that versatility and never lacks skill with his approach. And his new joint Kill Em All (BROOKLYNS BEST) is completely bonkers. This is the type of song that gets me buggin' when it comes to rap.
Kill Em All jumps right out at you. The instrumental's classic 1950's suspense film building atmosphere is impressively and solely created through this alarming amalgamation of a whistle and a scream, and a nasty jumpy drum break that brings that organized chaos sound Wu-Tang Clan was able to do by finding a balance with their personal organized chaos in their rhymes. Dillon Cooper just makes that his own with a flow and hook that's designed to rock a crowd, a rowdy verse that's filled with the brutal ways Dillon boasts himself up, Wu-Tang and Biggie references and a simple way to flex in a subtle manor. Because if you aren't being meticulous with his rhymes you're rocking with the music like it's a block party. I personally felt like I was at a block party. Kill Em All (BROOKLYNS BEST) has that excitement in it, but keeps the killer as its underbelly. It's one of the nastiest songs I've heard in a while. Dillon Cooper checked a plethora of rappers with this joint and he's truly starting to heat up as summer grows closer and closer. I can't fathom what comes next from the wordsmith. All I know is I can't wait and y'all should beware.
