Pusha T Gets Back to Money, Disrespects & Comes for the Throne with His New Song "M.F.T.R."

Before I jump into Pusha T's new song "M.F.T.R." (More Famous Than Rich) that he released today, I want to take a quick second to honor the late great John Lennon on the anniversary of his untimely death. Although way before my generation, I still grew up listening to The Beatles and many of his solo albums. John was a true visionary for humanity and a pioneer in the music industry. What he created with The Beatles and with his solo efforts (specifically "Imagine") will always be timeless. There can never (and will never) be another John Lennon. Rest in peace to the all-time great.

Now, let's get to this new King Push. The track that features The-Dream and is produced by Boi-1da and Frank Dukes takes an interesting sovereign attitude in a critical way. The track wastes no time  calling out all the fakes that tiptoe in the rap game hoping their true colors won't be revealed. "M.F.T.R." opens with The-Dream's hook and it has so much integrity, that integrity never wavers either. I knew exactly what Push and Dream were trying to do the entire time and they both came across as unstoppable. Not to mention The-Dream's hook is incredibly catchy, evoking paranoia and successfully highlighting his style of singing. It all just works so well. By the time Pusha T spits his first verse I was already impressed and worried about what he was about to say. Push has been ruthlessly emotionless with his raps lately. The G.O.O.D. Music president no longer cares about what someone thinks if he name drops them or says he's better than everyone and we get all of that in this song. His first verse is filled with comparisons to Jesus, Gil Scott-Heron and various kingpins. He ups his rap game with a viciously intimidating flow. I know Pusha T is bringing the importance of money over fame back with this song, but he still wants to let everyone know he's aiming for the throne and that determination is felt.

His second and third verses is when he truly starts berating all the other fakes. His rhyming is top-notch, his punch lines stick, his analogies and criticisms are clever. And all to a beat that has one of the strongest ominous sounds. There's vengeful key-like chimes and drums similar to Drake's "0 To 100", so the track has this fed up feeling working in tandem with everything else. It is definitely another dangerous song from Pusha T that I love. His forthcoming album "Darkest Before Dawn" is going to be a force to be reckoned with. I can't wait.
