Colorado's David Bonds Delivers His Best Music to Date with His Album "A Little Bit About Everything"

My home state of Colorado is a place that is looked over very frequently in terms of talent. But there is some promising young, raw talent coming out of Colorado currently. There's Slut Mob Villains, Kaleab Samuel and David Bonds leading the charge in some pretty good music coming out the box state-most specifically, from David Bonds.

Bonds' album "A Little Bit About Everything" (which plays closer to a mixtape to me) dropped yesterday and I had the pleasure to sit with the music a week ahead of the intended release date. Having that extra time helped me truly hear the progression in David's music. "A.L.B.A.E." is David's third complete project and is by far his best body of work. Right from the jump with his track "The Prostitute" I heard the improvements in the production. The beat is mixed properly and has more elements in it than his EP "JVME$" did (where the beats were boring). It sounded like the most standard pre-loaded drum kits were used and nothing more. That doesn't happen at all here. Perhaps that's attributed to the slew of producers who had a hand in giving "A Little Bit About Everything" a more personal sound, a sound that stays consistent throughout the entire project. The upped production definitely helps Bonds convey his themes of love, self made success and inner struggles a lot more prominently. He does so very strongly in his track "Keep Pushin" (feat. Jakob Campell) where both rappers spit about the adversity they've faced and counter those situations with their desire to work hard and see a better tomorrow. It's a dope message that comes across very well with their desperate but confident-sounding flows. Keep Pushin's beat also helps bring the hopeful feeling to life with the use of snare rolls - very reminiscent of the snare's in Eminem's "Like Toy Soldiers".

The remaining tracks that stood out to me were "Losin It" and "Isn't Pretty To Think So" (feat. Jakob Campbell). Both tracks were the strongest songs in my opinion. "Losin It" has a very strong hook (done by KrissiO) that is very addictive because of the use of auto-tune and heavy bass. David's verse contributes to the song's likable nature as well. The dark themes of the track explore his out-of-control nature and struggle to hold onto his sanity due to the drugs he's done, shaking up the pace of "A Little Bit About everything"."Isn't It Pretty To Think So" has drums and claps that are very similar to Logic's "Metropolis", giving this track a massive sound that works with the extremely light and positive tones this track has - again shaking up the pace.

The only true faults I could pick out was at times Bonds' flow can slip up in a few songs (not as frequently as it use to), and his timing seems a tad bit off in his track "Insomnia". The beat has these small interruptions as the hook is being sung which halts the flow in tandem with the halt in the beat so the hook sounds a little choppy. But overall "Insomnia" is still an enjoyable song, as is the entire project. David Bonds really worked on everything from his flow and pen game to production. "A Little Bit About Everything" is the local Colorado artists' first project I genuinely like and where his songs actually sound and feel like songs and not just someone rapping over a beat. There are hooks, samples, the tracks are mixed and they have a wider range of emotions and topics. There is something for everybody. Y'all should check this dude out, help him grow as an artist and give this project a listen.
