Wale Conveys an Important Message to Young Girls on His New Track "Illuminate"

Wale had a busy day musically yesterday. "The Album About Nothing" creator dropped off a total of four new tracks and one of them was a nice track properly entitled "Illuminate" (feat. Phil Ade).

This track falls into the same pool as "New Phone" melodically. "Illuminate" opens with a quick sample from the beat in Nas' "I Can",  following a minimal and quick beat alteration that smooths things out to a nice, soft relaxed beat consisting of frequent hi-hat's and a simple bass-line. From there, Wale switched between singing which was very poetic (as it tends to be) and rapping that stayed on the same poetic level. He captures the energy and spirit of the person he's talking to which in this case I think is young girls. He's letting them know that there is a light and something special inside of them and they need to let it out and show the world what they can do. Just like in  Nas' "I Can". And if that is the directed audience, it's certainly a beautiful message that I wouldn't put past Wale to convey and borrow from.

"Illuminate" is a really good song that I hope finds a home on a more complete body of work. If not, that's fine because this track can stand alone and that's what's so special about it.

Check out the track below.
