Kanye West Reminds us of His Greatness with His Performance at the Democratic National Committee Fundraiser
Kanye West is definitely the greatest artist of our time. Despite whether you love him or hate him there is no denying his excellence musically. The visionary put on a sensational show at the Democratic National Committee fundraiser. Ye's fifty-two minute performance was comprised of some of his biggest hits off each one of his albums.
The performance opened with West's "Power" off of "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy". The stage was made up similar to how it was when he was performing "808s & Heatbreak" in L.A. just on a smaller scale, but still grandiose. Everything was gorgeous visually. It looked like a Yeezy Season fashion show was taking place at the same time of a full out concert. That whole visual strategy made his performance of "Power" bigger than the song already is. I thought it all blended his accomplishments at the same time to show that Kanye has obtained a lot of power, but it's really the power of the people. From there Yeezy goes back and forth between 808s and "MBDTF". Performing "Amazing", "Love Lockdown" then right into "Runaway" just to name a few tracks. The entire sequence of jumping from album to album had this beautiful suspense that each song made my stomach drop.
About halfway through his performance he breaks away from 808s, ending it off with "Coldest Winter" and jumping right into "Only One". He of course brings a strong sentimental element to the song that is even greater since he begins to get the crowd involved. "Only One" was suppose to be the final song in his set, but Yeezus blessed everybody with an extra twenty-plus minutes and really gave a Kanye West performance. Immediately going back to day one and rockin' the crowd with "Through The Wire" while everyone threw their diamonds up, including me. It was so infectious, and the energy in this performance was undeniable. The way Kanye guided everyone through his albums and hearing the evolution of his sound is breathtaking. The remainder of this godly performance is Ye rattling off track after track from each one of his albums in the order they came out. He even included "Cruel Summer" before topping things off in the most stylish fashion with "Good Life".
This performance was without a doubt Kanye displaying his preeminence as an artist that reminded us all how spectacular his discography is. It made it vividly clear for me that I have not truly lived until I have gone to a Kanye West concert. I can only hope that one day I will.
