Tyler, The Creator's "Cherry Bomb" Reminiscsent of N.E.R.D.

If we never get another N.E.R.D album it's okay. Because Tyler got us.

Tyler, The Creator's latest album "Cherry Bomb" sounds very reminiscent of N.E.R.D's 2001 album "In Search of..." mixed with his unique weirdness and chaos.

The first track in is "Death Camp" produced by Tyler himself and right off the bat you get a "Lapdance" vibe from the chord progression and drums. Even Tyler's vocals are distorted in a way that mirrors Pharrell's vocals throughout "Lapdance" and various songs on "In Search of...."  "Death Camp" is the perfect attention grabber that gives the listener a spectacular feel for Tyler's rebellious demeanor while providing you with prime examples as to why he is a leader in music.

"Death Camp" smoothly transitions into "BUFFALO" and from the start of this song you feel that aggression and you know Tyler is going to talk his s**t, which he does until his second verse where he raps about how there are no leaders besides him which is an issue since they are so desperately needed right now.

"Cherry Bomb" is an album that cannot be classified as one single genre, honestly. It successfully blends so many different styles of music together that it puts this album on a much bigger relatable spectrum.  There are pop-feeling tracks, rock-inspired tracks and R&B-inspired tracks. The fifth track, "FIND YOUR WINGS", has a very relaxing jazz feel that Kali Uchis ties together with her soulful R&B sounding vocals that are redolent of Amy Winehouse.

"Cherry Bomb" has something for everybody. If you want to hear Tyler trading lyrics with Kanye West and Lil Wayne then "Smuckers" is your song because when that beat drops you're in for a delightful treat where Lil Wayne, Kanye and of course Tyler are at their best. If you want a hard rap song that sounds like it could have come straight off of Schoolboy Q's "Oxymoron", then "THE BROWN STAINS OF DARKEESE LATIFAH PART 6-12 (REMIX)" which features Q is one joint you'll be riding to everywhere you go. "Cherry Bomb" is another album that is keeping 2015 the best year for music in a long time. And we need to respect its genius and enjoy it.
