Quadry We Smokin Don't You Weep

The state of the world is in such disarray and inexorable demand for change that society never noticed aliens made contact. Officially identified as life forms under the names Quadry and Jansport J, they brought with them a body of music as a means of communication.

Seven song project "Don't You Weep" is stacked beginning to end with politically poignant records like "Aw Mane," and opinionated songs about what's plaguing society as a whole ("Better Days"). Jansport J's self-effacing approach to the production disguises the medicine in the music to the point of being untraceable. However, the Baton Rouge artist's most unputdownable song and sneakily best example of this is "We Smokin'."

We Smokin' within the tracklist reads like a moment of a self-medicating result of the issues touched on in songs prior. A lo-fi-type flip of a true blue-eyed soul record injects a palpable ardor into the music. Iron percussion, clammy snaps, the thud of buried drums and minor chops to the sample's melody and rhythm produce one chilled rhythm prime for Quadry to make his unique voice the star.

Quadry's high, alien-sounding voice operates under Luka Doncic or Kawhi Leonard rules: their game can never be sped up. The "Open Scene" artist allows the pocket to come to him, while his funky flow and reporting delivery give the storytelling on the verses impact and a sense of charm. "We Smokin" sounds lighter than the other records and prescribes doing things that feel good as you continue to tackle the important issues.

I just find it funny it took two aliens to feed the game.
