Nikko Gray Into The Soil Seeks Cosmic Balance

Valuable is the army of artists calming the troubled waters of our minds for focused thought through the abolition of systems and symbols of oppression. Whether you're one of the many foot soldiers protesting or you are utilizing your platform to spread information, resources and petitions, it is all necessary for the revolution happening to change the zeitgeist of the 2020s moving forward. But the revolution is never without a score, and found on that lengthy tracklist is Nikko Gray's EP "Into The Soil."

Having all the music produced by Bobby Earth, "Into The Soil" breaks convention early and pushes the two musical artists into experimental spaces that have yet been heard from either of them. The opening track "Awesome" runs over five minutes and relishes in glittery harmonies and spacious vocal tones. The aquatic drums loop a low, bubbly rhythm across from diving chords and occasional harp/guitar flutters brightening the textures of the music. The combined meditative ambience of the sound acts as a warm up for the journey about to take place in the span of two more songs.

The middle child of the EP, "Momentum" should not be ignored. Crunching and crackling snare drums atop radiating chord stabs sound like movement through different dimensions. The wah pedal accents flooding the music rip apart any tether to reality the music had at its genesis. Nikko's starry melodies, vibrato and dancing, cosmic tone create a new vacuum of rhythm to liven up the whole song. The music contrasts extraordinarily well with the closing track "Good Mourning" and the tame vocal riffs and tempering production found on it that reach a destination of self-discovery by "Into The Soil's" end.
