Carter Ace And Swoon What They Think

At this point in Carter Ace's laundry list of memorable releases, every record is beginning to sound like a different artist recorded on each one. As the music comes and singles continue to be dropped, the direction of the sound continuously points to an area we're never looking at. The newest record "What they Think" with Swoon and Andrea Chahayed practically charts a new direction that never existed on the compass to begin with.

The vocal performances on this song are so painfully good and catchy each section of the record makes you swoon -- no pun intended. From the verses and chorus to vocal bells and whistles like funky quartet harmonies and whisper tones, "What They Think" sounds like mini songs from individual boy band members within one song. Andrea's chipmunk vocals sugar-coating the chorus evoke a different era of music circa 2003. Carter's Gatling melodies can only be described as peaks and valleys due to the way he plays with his inflections during his verse. The second verse by Swoon slides in like traditional R&B vocals with respiring singing and melodies gyrating throughout the song. The only part about this song possibly more addictive than the vocals is the production.

Swoon's coquettish production keeps the song rendered in an intriguing sweat from beginning to end. A slippy synth bassline maintains a popping rhythm easily felt thanks to the cushion of healthful chord progressions and communal claps and shaker percussion. The bridge and instrumentation change to acoustic guitar soften the chords even further, insulating the heart of the songwriting to protect the core of the record which is a love song of sorts.

What They Think, through all its rejection over being self-conscious and not carrying what people think, has us thinking nothing but flattering thoughts. And I, for one, am ready to let others know how I feel.
