Through all the years of writing about, casually listening to and being a fan of Bobby Earth's music, I can readily say that the release of his second single "Holla" (feat. TiRon & Ayomari) is his best thus far as an artist.

The plushy track from his forthcoming sophomore album "Party At The Ivory Tower" sounds tailored to the radio in Lumpy Space Princess' Lumpy Car. Traditionally, Bobby Earth songs come self-produced and more often than not he is the sole songwriter, but I have a sneaking suspicion this album perimeters themes of partnership more closely. And that had an outward approach to the music.

Nozomi Yamaguchi and The Flavor producing "Holla" with chopped nostalgic rap samples pumping up and layering the rhythm is new territory for an Earth song. The sanded lead-in guitar riff ends up a looped, doting counter-melody consistent throughout like an emotional and structural guide. And their 808s have a permanent sheen and sound that can only be described as the sound 'P' makes in peppermint. The drums burst just as refreshing on the track, too. However, what gives "Holla" its moment of liftoff from earth comes from specific vocal performances.

The Milky Wayv artist's swelling harmonies and changes applied to the vocals during the second appearance of the chorus is what Earth is so great at. His vocal riffs have a quick moment to blaze their passion. When the production cuts out and the song glides on the strength of the chorus, "Holla" sounds cooked up using the formula of music from the aughts exclusively for that section of the song. Prior to that, Ayomari spits universal game dressed in metaphors, rhyming, unique flows and deepened vocal tones to better the case to be the center of someone's affection.

Bobby Earth's "Holla" broaches rap, pop and r&b to make for one cared for sounding track. The effort was treated with extreme collaboration, some might say more like a partnership. And that is the finest thing of all.
