The picture book being crafted out of musical artist Cam O'bi's songs of late is beginning to feel like an epic choose your own adventure ripe with enchantment and amusement that unlocks the black boy joy we so desperately need or want to hold on to. And his latest chapter "Perfect" (with theMIND) is on the verge of heated discovery. For better or for worse.
O'bi's frothy chords, nimble synthesizers and colorful splashing drums accompanied with dart percussion set a path of perfumed melodies and grinning rhythms to a land of gladdening affecting vocals from theMIND layered and harmonized like a choir for a verse and chorus. Cam's overzealous verse weaves comical, healing rap with revolving flows and mellifluous vocals that croon his relationship wounds.
"Perfect" can turn night into day or simply prolong the sun to never see the dark -- it all depends on when you listen to it. And that really should be all you need to know.
