This is how you spend a winter. This is the melancholy boy music the singles and the lonelys deserve.

Dallas, Texas-based artist owning all of what the word encompasses, whereisalex, dropped an 11-minute réchauffé of sorts, packaged as a single song entitled "Overthinker" that can only be described as overthinking. Iridescent foil textured chords can be heard one minute and the next you're getting severe piano chords, horn accented chords or an accompaniment of an actual brass section. Large drums and unorthodox percussion fill the spaces of the songs with abstract, disjointing rhythms that either disguise the sensitive melodies or repeal from its own sound so the melodies can shine through.

Track's such as "honesty" with Garrickson embody this. The twinkling falsetto and melodies deserving to be sung on a magic flying carpet feel fuzzy because of the leveled chord progression and constant changes of a seemingly free-flowing composition. The string work, specifically on the guitar heard during a latter section of "Overthinker," is something to be admired. Their improvisational nature calls to mind Jim Lang's jazz compositions from "Hey Arnold," taking me to a less stressful time in life that plays out like caffeinated spots of interest in the music that hang on a shooting vibe.

From "honest" and "lust" to "heal" and "ghosted," whereisalex's "Overthinker" is a busy listen at his design. The songs don't necessarily offer treatment, but relief. And getting over a broken heart, or not even having the opportunity to give someone your heart to break is a shared human state worthy of a little relief.

Listen to "Overthinker" below.
