Premiered through Urban Outfitters Music, Chicago's Victor! brings us a new song with a reinvigorated sound. His new tunes entitled "Portra 400" look to mature as he does, basing the songwriting in an unlikely game of chance and simply being okay with that.

Written and produced by Victor!, the 17-year-old experimented with Ableton and created something brand new in his catalog. A Bela Lugosi-faced chord progression brands the track early, running through a darker sounding synthesizer than usual. The "Tinder Song" artist's drums are "inspired by Micheal Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel," evident in the rhythm and tempo, but "Portra 400's" drums sound significantly sanded, exacerbated by the shaker percussion which really plays to the memory motif of the song. The more dulled chord progression and drowning strings sound Adult Swim bump appropriate, muddying up the song with the idea that things never really end as smoothly as we remember. And that is the trick within Victor!'s vocals.

The Cautious Clay tour mate sings in youthful falsetto and whining distortion, sounding younger in certain instances with a sound that attracts a warmness to the subject even if it is remembered incorrectly. Victor!'s spiritless melody brings both detachment from the moment and longing for the past. And when it comes right down to it his voice is simply a vibe.

It's obvious Victor! learned a few things from our untouchable GOAT, Frank Ocean. "Portra 400" is a step into the future of Victor!'s music. And by the sound of it, we're in for some quality work.
