There is a moment when a label and the artists occupying the slots on that roster cross over into a threshold of musical harmony. Every release feels controlling of their "genre" and an important piece to a larger puzzle -- Trey Graves's project "drft." is that next piece.

The Milky Wayv artist's 7-track project holds a lucky song count, perhaps not by accident. Being minimally assisted on "drft." (with additional keys by Jadan Graves and Joey Grimes, additional bass guitar by David McKenzie and features from alanna, LIL and label-mate Solace,) Trey Graves constructs linear bass line fronted songs that exhibit the messy lows of growing together rather than distract from them. Songs like the patiently sung, "special interlude" (feat. Solace) incubates chugging percussion, a wiry bass line, harp-like chords and hefty claps that culminate as this contemplative rhythm that inserts sincerity behind the mawkish melodies. Graves's "new thang." cooks up a syrupy riff that glistens like a sticky counter-melody sopping up the flavor from his intoxicated chorus courtesy of a new love, while a track like "on my mind." (feat. alanna) serves up the lone chimerical chord-dominated song, introducing the early stages of dueting harmonies.

The "Need A Minute" artist's "drft." floats down the stream of intimacy, ultimately love pit falling and gumming up what could be clean waters with a little work. And you're bound to connect with an experience with every listen.
