Jackie Carlson, better known by her stage name Family Reunion, isn't leaving any room for talks of a vacation, contrary to her J cut by the same title, with the release of her 20/20 track Vision.
Connecting once again with her go-to producing partner Tombo, Family's plushy vocals baby a lulling within the rhythm's promenade. Those toyish piano chords bell-in the sweetest intentions of the song. Flat, 909-type snare drums spike against the loose guitar riff and gooey synth underbelly, leaving Jackie's vocals to feel like the outlier during crushing season, fully expressed in her flustered yet optimistic lyrics.
Jackie's auroral harmonies play well against her dour vocals and active melody. Her voice and the spirited rhythm she catches with it, not to mention that catchy hook, make you want to dance in an attempt to hide your face as you ugly cry or while you're secretly hoping for the best. Listening to Vision is a celebration of feelings and crushes taken to a place only Family Reunion can take it to. And what can feel better than that?
