One of Chicago's brightest sons, Ric Wilson, is typically transmitted as a ball of socially active energy, never cheating us out of a forthcoming positive upswing of vibes. But the Soul Bounce artist just laid down a cut I deem to be his most human, entitled We Don't Know.

Wilson's We Don't Know was birthed by way of a rainy Chi-Town day along with thoughts of our mortality, reflected in the production instantly. A rainfall soundbite is shortly accompanied by lugubrious chords to build the song's tone vocally and emotionally for Ric. Those chords seamlessly transition into a prominent keyboard sound, fixed within a cycled reverb writing in their own abstract laws for the music. The funky sound drums up thoughts of life's increasingly funky cycle of life and death. James Gents' dirt-infested drums don't offer any relief from We Don't Know's reality, either. That task is left to Ric Wilson who in turn rejects the easy way of providing comfort.

Ric's firmly, cushioned vocals follow suit in terms of a cycle. We Don't Know is all hook and harmonizing. But it works on every level in the song. Lyrics that feature a perspective in dubious thought towards where we go when we die or how we grow throughout life present the most solid answer we have about these topics, which is where I find comfort. Because ultimately, we don't know. And consequently, we have to be alright with that.
