Marry me to the song fornicating with banger idiosyncrasies that identifies as the genre neutral track it is...because I want to hear more of that straightaway.

Calvin Holmes' track overdosing on love and reciprocation, Boyfriend/WasteMyTime, is some of the most ambrosial sounds I've heard in a long time. The double feature ballad plays on melodies gravid with attachment in two separate forms.

Boyfriend ushers in green guitar chords (by Brooke Skye/Victor) and eases the heart of the song down to a locked gaze between hazel and greenish-blue eyes. Holmes' ticky-tacky 808s chips away at the time these two have together. But those pop-in drums (in particular the lift of his hi-hats) keep the time at an exciting pulse, not to mention Calvin's nonchalant cadence throughout his verse of commitment that really exemplifies the type of boyfriend he will be if the addictive, loverboy chorus didn't tip you off. And my goodness, to lead off the song with Boyfriend in addition to the four-count transition to WasteMyTime is gorgeous auditory anticipation.

WMT calls to mind the essence of the first line in Drake's hook on Diced Pineapples: "Call me crazy -- sh*t, at least you're calling." The vocals on Waste similarly search for notice, even if it's negative. The milk and water singing perfectly puts the lyrics of that wanting into a state that lacks romantic strength. The chorus sound is wonderful yet leaves a bleakness to be unmasked, specifically in the verse. The Oak Park, Illinois artist's verse sounds entirely disconnected and the flow draws as uninterested, but sure that he'll hurt somebody or vice versa. However, the monotony of the mentality is only felt in the cheerless drum loop and whimpering guitar chords off in the distance. That production has relatability in the rhythm.

Boyfriend/WasteMyTime is love wounds wrapped in a pretty genre-blended package. And I'd bet on the fact that the majority is going to enjoy this one.
