Come on. You didn't think that through all the craziness going on in America right now two Angry Blackmen would stay quiet in a time crying out for vocal responsibility, did you?

The Chicago duo is back with a second single entitled Smile (prod. by Elijah) and the shared feelings the song has captured through lyrical content and production is uncanny.

Smile rises up in a production space reminiscent of Tyler, The Creator's IFHY. Corybantic keys with clashing tempos converge over a more harmony focused chord progression and I hear a direct link to T and P's chords (in the hook) on IFHY, conveniently aligning with how POC are feeling about the country in its current climate. The same can be said for Elijah's fractured snare drum. Those feelings in turn put Angry Blackmen in a position of growth, blossoming into something positive as our people have always been known to do.

Smile's opening hook is a good use of vocals. A catchy tune is immediately carried with an inflection of amazement, truly self-internalizing the black boy magic being sung about. The vocals lob the verse to the front door of White America and the lyrics reflect that stance. Their reference line to Ye's opening line on Gotta Have It, with minor plays on Yeezy's lyrics, tickled my music nerd bone and is just the attitude we need to kick in the door.

Smile is a reminder to stay us through it all. And through it all Angry Blackmen made it sound good.
