Chicago newborns, Angry Blackmen, aren't solely an appropriately named rap duo with an acerbic improv aesthetic. They are two guys coming with a debut track entitled OK! that seeds multiple inspired sounds trying to ease boredom, all behind a logo recalling that of KMD's Black Bastards album cover.

OK! opens up attempting to part stormy clouds. A low synth chord progression plays into dart-to-balloon drums that snap off into a b-boy drum break in the latter of the track. Bunny Sigler's intro vocals from Shake Your Booty and laser blaster noises are sampled, opening a sound space to let things go. The production comes with a jake hop, a hop not at all missing from AB's vocals.

From the verse to the chorus, there is a shared rhythm responsibility with the drums. The moment the lyrics "Shawty, are you ok?" hit, I heard a shift in melody and music. Their singing follows the melodic structure of Michael Jackson's famed question "Annie, are you okay?" on the legendary song Smooth Criminal's break and chorus. The verse sounds like how first person at a party would look. The flow is hurried and it sounds like a large intake of things. There's an assortment of food references and delicious wordplay. OK! is a fun song.

I'm interested to hear what else Angry Blackmen have slated for the future. The name implies they have something to say. So I definitely want to find out.

Listen to OK! below.
