I'm finding out Quelle Chris is an interesting character. It manifests in his music, now it's showing in his visuals.

Quelle's Tammy Mercure-directed video for Calm Before (feat. Cavalier x Suzi Analogue) makes me wonder if anyone has ever thought about what it'd be like to be ensconced in or ride atop a smoke cloud, taking you to different environments while simultaneously contemplating how far you'll go in life.

The visuals kick off with silhouettes of Chris and Cavalier against a blue backdrop. From there, they just vibe with one another, feeding off each other's chill flows amid moments of striving in their raps and bopping to a beat of juggling clocky kicks. The two show up on beaches or are positioned in front of smoky backdrops against a star-filled atmosphere. Extremely high points in the visual department. Suzi Analogue's recycling of ad-libs and noises keeps everything in a cyclical chill. Catching the same vibes, hearing the same sounds and staying in the same tempo is the calm before. Tammy Mercure's up close Public Access TV shots of water is relaxing. Everything seen and heard nestles in its own bed and doesn't want to get up -- an action we all wish we could all do at one time or another.

If Quelle Chris was shooting for an I'm high, go with the flow aesthetic, I'd say he hit it on the head. Because that's all I saw and hence, the music made me sluggish. It's a loosened vibe I wouldn't normally attempt to catch.

Hopefully, you all feel the same.
