The immediacy of VDon's gripping -- no, the planting of his tone taken in the new year, has me riled up. SUMO SMOKE BREAKS N CHOPS VOL 2 is a delish series of instrumentals. I can honestly say that VDon is a sickly talented producer with bilious beats.
SUMO SMOKE BREAKS N CHOPS VOL 2 plays like his instrumentals are sitting in stages. The very first stage intros in ghostly winds and yawn sounds before hammering in a surveying drum break. VDon's drums at the first level is a docile groove. His beatboxing hi-hats are working overtime with a tightly-wound snare that sound as if they're making a sharp turn, and not to mention his bass thuds while circling tone testing keys evoke a head space of confusion with a tad bit of mystery. Then the beat switch shoves itself in through the bass and it's on to the next level.
SSBNCV2's second stage sounds like a score to your inventory check/restock. Extremely tone heavy xylophone strings tip-toe as the main component, bringing this feeling of searching to the beat. A chugging hi-hat puts a time constraint on the beat's feeling of intermission. I also heavily dig VDon's doomed creeping synths working along the head snappy bass. The atmosphere is thick, it's an overall cold sound. I truly imagined a Bruce Lee Game of Death-like set up of challenges that each floor came with, all imagined through drum breaks and via particular ways the samples were chopped up.
I don't want to ruin all of SUMO SMOKE BREAKS N CHOPS VOL 2 for y'all, so I'll leave the final three stages as unlockable via listening below. I shall, however, leave you with this: the final instrumental stage is a chalky soul ride. The grooves are thick and you will get clocked into the drum's pocket swiftly. It happened to me, so be ready for it. I believe it to be the pinnacle moment of this instrumental.
