I've become convinced that a song by theWHOevers can vocally nestle with anyone's beat and the resulting sound will be fantastic. If you're not convinced, the remix from producer duo The Bckpckrs of theWHOevers' originally funky rhythm guitar strutting track R U DOWN (a great record) is proof enough to sway you towards my thinking.

The Bckpckrs R U DOWN remix has a night club bounce to it. The immediate cutting in of a tonal shrugging chord progression is an alerting sound. Their pounding bass drum, often throbbing in bursts, is where the initial bounce comes in. The Bckpckrs' echoing claps and constant tempo coaster builds up then takes away so much I was waiting for the beat to pop its top. The sound is exciting yet chill. It makes the production's erupting gasket that much better.

The beat change of a more warped bass, cyclical snickering 808s, angelic background vocals and a now feathery chord progression is a collective sound of an interval. The soft dingy sound of the chords is lightly touched -- I do feel as if it's time to relax when I hear it. The Bckpckrs put some good production on this thing. Not to mention theWHOevers funky vocals themselves fit in nicely. Next to this production the singing sometimes sounds pop tailored, funky or gospel-like. So in short, no matter your prerogative I think you can get down to the  R U DOWN remix.
