My excitement over four ethers by serpentwithfeet can't be contained. The cut off his EP blisters is a total mic drop. Believe me, it's that good.

Four Ethers brands itself into your memory via the sheer sonics from the powerful instrumentation. The orchestral pit this music climbs from is exhilarating. Serpent's thunderous marching bass drum rumbles realities and shakes up norms. Four Ethers' static sound underscoring the entire song sounds like rain, it washes this feeling of obscurity over the song. The cliff-hanging horn section mixing with the deathly string section sinks the song to a Stygian crypt. Four Ethers' instrumentation stirs within me emotions of fear, triumph and despair. The music scares. The arrangements rile me up. Serpentwithfeet's beautifully sung vocals will shackle you to these emotions.

Through my ears, his vocals resemble Sisqo's with influence from the untouchable queen Sade. He gives the goosebumps moments of high notes, vibrato on ad-libs that are comforting yet worrisome. The lyrics in essence are tragic, but redeeming. Four Ethers musically lies things to rest. Serpentwithfeet's song is a piece of music that resonates with stakes. From the gut of my opinion, the music feels as if depression wrote each note and lyric, while finality oversees the process. The music is overwhelmingly human.

The avant-garde video fleshes out these ideas. The Timothy Saccenti & Eduardo Cruz-directed visuals remind me of the movie, 300. Something comes off as very ancient and powerful while watching the visuals. The aforementioned Sade's influence comes back into play as well -- certain posing, the flowing of his garments channels spirits of Sade's Soldier of Love album cover. Serpentwithfeet is stylized very beautifully in an emotionally war-torn setting. With that being said, the inky atmosphere is still rich. I simply love it. Whether it is strictly audio or watching the visuals, I highly recommend spending time with this music. We don't hear pieces like this every day.
