I've got questions. My peeps and Marcellus Juvann's people -- they have questions, too. We all want and need answers to them. And I'm so happy because Marcellus Juvann put some answers to those questions in his music.

Marcellus Juvann's latest cut Comatose sets the stage with the multiple murders of black men by police officers that despite wide-spread calls for attention to the issue are still happening. Comatose drills everything. Kicking the track is a question-laden hook that asks why is this world so cold? Why do these officers keep killing our folks? And he slaps a Metal Gear Solid style question mark (yes, I realize it was a exclamation point) over politicians heads. I dig the questions. The hook isn't just catchy, it's dire. His verse with the static put to his voice sounds like this message in being televised. Because it is. His somewhat fearful, yet counterattack-ready lyrics is the message. It speaks directly to the black experience in America right now. The mood throughout the sounds of his flow and the cadence is fed up. We are tired of this blatant devaluing of black lives. Marcellus Juvann spit those sentiments correct and I appreciate the raps.

Of course I would be remiss if I didn't mention the beat on this joint. Comatose's production, handled by Kountdown and Jayze Official, brings its own frustrated feelings. Something about the bass hits me like a muffled yell. That jabbing drum, such a sharp sound. The hit of the drum working in tandem with the churning artificial percussion sounds angry. I like it a lot. I like this song. The meat of Comatose is so needed right now.

Black people are viewed as dangerous on sight. We are being shot and killed by officers armed with unsubstantiated pretenses of fear. We are not given the chance to be apprehended alive during police encounters -- minor or major. We see guns still pointed on black men, women and children after they've been killed as if they are some superhuman entity about to spring back to life. We are seen as a threat. We see white people resist arrest all the time, yelling and screaming at officers as they demand their badge numbers. Yet they come out of the confrontations alive. We've even a white mass murder receive compassion and protection as officers fed him Burger King. The optics of discrepancy are clear and they need to be figured out. We appreciate Comatose for helping to keep the conversation going. Because we can't be wrong for wanting to stay alive.
