Aesop Rock is easily in contention as one of the most underrated MC's who can rock a mic. Aesop Rock is one of my favorite lyricists. The same can be said about his now frequent collaborative partner, Homeboy Sandman.

And luckily, with their Stones Throw-released EP Lice Two: Still Buggin', their mic ability is on full display. The five track EP brings with it raw, coldly gritty, at times miscellaneous production from Dan Hayden, rthentic RTNC who has prod. for De La Soul, Mos Def etc., as well as beats birthed from Sober Minded, Aesop Rock himself and more. Lice Two: Still Buggin' comes with an elevated level of seriousness in the lyrics juxtaposed to last year's very dope Lice EP.

This body of work is a level of music I've had a glutenous appetite for. The drum break, sneaking bassline and tip-toeing xylophone on Zilch alone has chunks of rhythm, melody and sonic attributes that fit to high speed detective comic panels. It's some way to kick off an EP. Aesop Rock and Homeboy Sandman kick dense, sharp-witted vocabulary filled verses all over this EP. I'm tweaking over what they rhyme and relate on Still Buggin'. Rock's natural bass in his voice makes that flow in its choppiness glory ironic silk. Sandman's cadence has lyrical aggression in it. It's beautiful. There's felt rap competition in the transparent musical conviviality.

There are obvious levels to this rap thing. Aesop Rock x Homeboy Sandman's Lice Two: Still Buggin' is on a pretty high up floor. It deserved a lot of build up, but I believe that still doesn't do it justice. Needless to say, this EP is something y'all definitely gotta check out.
