I don't know if any of y'all have ever played or even remember the Playstation 2 game Katamari Damacy. But if you do, Thundercat's newest release Bus In These Streets resembles the bizarre sleeper hit.

Thundercat - Bus In These Streets in my opinion shares the novelty Katamari Damacy's gameplay had. The instrumentation here doesn't remotely resemble reality. Thundercat's lyrics, in a confusingly lost manner, are about being lost in technology, oblivious to your reality around you zipping by while you spew your life into your phone. It sounds very twinkly and bubble-gummy in nature, but the truth runs deep. In fact, Thundercat's vocals sound like the sonics carrying his voice are traveling from bubble to bubble, adding a double dose of ice cream with the bad news -- a very cool way to sing about something serious.

No surprise, Thundercat's bass playing is astounding. He rips open a wobbled path in this song for his skipping baseline. A path that the floating bells, a pretty rudimentary sounding snare with Willy Wonka-esque rolls and a series of keys that note by note, with waterfall progression, lead the march in. Every sound births a very sweet moving march that finales at a backtracking scale of descending into madness keys that meet up with buttery bass chords, sprite snaps already dancing. The outro section of this song is such an attractive transition. Thundercat's bass chords that close Bus In These Streets have a slithery sound that has become synonymous with his style, only the descending/ascension of notes fret to fret run in a Legato slide style. It's a style that played off ear sounds accomplished through a series of pull-offs (maybe some hammer-ons), creating the extra notes that make my sonic illusions of Thundercat's extra fingers seem real. It's a truly awesome sound crafted by great technique. Something music heads won't find hard to enjoy.

Bus In These Streets is another win for BRAINFEEDER. Thundercat pumps out a bevy of the weirdest music I've ever heard, but the execution is flawless. With each release I increasingly become a bigger fan. Something I'm sure happens for the rest of y'all.
