In the midst of prepping your food, raising your American flag and double checking the fireworks display schedule, having a personal (or shared) playlist is as equally as important. So in the spirit of the 4th of July, I've handpicked a playlist of music from my own personal SoundCloud. Fair warning -- although this playlist is because of the 4th, it is not 4th themed. My hope is that this eclectic, possibly lesser known pool of songs and artists find their way into your everyday as they have for me.

The playlist (entitled July 4 Songs) includes 20 tracks from extremely talented artists that if you take the time to explore their music you'll find a uniqueness in any pitch, flow, chord, overall production or song arch. There's work from Steve G. Lover, the emotionally in touch Twelve'Len, the existential provoking theMIND, the wavy voiced Peyton and the proud Alex Mali with something to say. Here you'll find a gorgeous cover of Kanye West's masterpiece Street Lights (entitled Streetcar) by Daniel Caesar, who I believe takes the distress and exhaustion I felt existing in Ye's to ironically flip it, feeling like his own reflective story of a small triumph over the bump in the road. I love it. I love all the music from artists who's names are beginning to speak for themselves like SABA, Chris McClenney, and the beautiful piece by Sampha along with many, many others. I'd love to extensively name drop them all given my belief and pure esteem towards their music, but I'll let y'all organically discover your own connections with the music. I hope you enjoy every last song. Happy 4th of July!
