I was never a huge fan of Sonic the Hedgehog. Of course when the series was a high-speed platforming game it was cold. But when it veered off into other genres of gaming I didn't stick around. I did, however, always admire the music. Particularly for the iconic Green Hill Zone stage. That music is pure excellence in gaming music, especially out of the 16-bit era. And that 16-bit classic has been dusted off on the re-work by Mac Miller's DJ, CLOCKWORKDJ.

CLOCKWORKDJ's re-work is about as catchy as the original in my opinion. It opens with that original score before CLOCKWORK slows the tempo down and piles on some exploding bass that gives those 16-bit tones some punch but makes the sounds stand out. The original music still works as the underbelly, giving me the desire to explore and get lost. The work in of his stomping drums and a crash-clap upped the fun and makes this remix have a looser feeling. And the add-on of very sticky 808's with a movement like Sonic's legs during his 'you're too slow' taunt on SSBB brings the electric speed synonymous with the speedster Hedgehog. CLOCKWORKDJ's re-work of Green Hill Zone is a fun track that was stashed somewhere in his vault. This joint makes me excited to go play the game again. CLOCKWORK's remix is something video game heads might get a kick out of, along with the music heads. I like it and I think y'all will, too.
