The Man, The Myth, The Legend: Kurt Cobain

Today marks 22 years that "my dad" Kurt Cobain sadly and untimely reached the state of Nirvana. Kurt Cobain can't be summed up by anyone. And I don't think he would want anyone to try to. I once read that he never cared for rock journalism, given the writers at various magazines and music news outlets would try to decipher and transcribe his lyrics, which more often than not they'd get wrong. I'm paraphrasing, but he said "his lyrics are like a big pile of contradictions." He'd often change them because they weren't the main focus. He believed music came first, lyrics second. And the music is outstanding, timeless and it speaks for itself.

Kurt Cobain is legendary. Nirvana is legendary. No one will ever refute that. They are one of my favorite bands of all time, as well as recognized as one of the greatest bands ever. Kurt's vocals are innovative, his original style of guitar playing mingles with the likes of any of the guitar greats of your choice. Kurt's Fender Mustang and intro riff from the Smells Like Teen Spirit video/song is a beautiful riff from a gorgeous guitar that started it all. It's a big reason why I took up the guitar for a few years. Nirvana's impact on Grunge alone is history making, although unintentional, they did represent an entire generation. I could go on and on, but I don't think it would be true to Kurt. He was a creative of the highest caliber that stretched beyond music and he would just want you to enjoy his art. He was a tortured genius we will never understand, adding to his folklore. That will never change.

So please, enjoy this thread of Kurt Cobain pictures & Nirvana's classics. Rest in Peace, Kurt Cobain.
