I see you Derin Falana -- and I hope the rest of the world is watching. Brampton's Derin Falana's freshest mixtape Live From Rocky Mountain is that sweet balance of a conceptually driven tape with a banger underbelly I've been feenin' for. Music like this is damn hard to come by. And I love it.

Falana's Live From Rocky Mountain mixtape vents out all the frustrations of real-life struggles, career struggles, those feelings of being trapped with aspirations to soar high like an eagle and experience the world. Derin Falana takes this trapped atmosphere and expands it through nine tracks, bringing this newly discovered feeling to the tape. There's very good production from plenty of producers from the work of Lucidox, Po, Jordon Manswell and Brammah, to Grammy nominated Sevn Thomas, Burd&Keyz, and many more. All of these different styles of production collide beautifully on the tape to create fiercely tender, wondrous sounds and atmospheres that propel Derin's determination, emotions and story through his bars and vocals, like on my favorites The Pick Up or 12AM . More majestic sounds are found on Into The Wild that fit closer to his mindset of a dreamer and his will to stick with wherever his journey takes him, as well as the highs and lows that come with everything in between. It's all bona fide inspirational and damn good music.

Live From Rocky Mountain is a mixtape that should be heard, because it's one of those tapes that someone might need to hear at the right moment to keep them pushing. Derin Falana is someone we all should be watching. This project is too good for him to slip under the radar.
