Jameszoo's "Flake" is a Messy Mind-Opening Masterpiece

Shout out to the weird and unorthodox -- there's nothing better when it's translated to music. And Jameszoo's latest masterpiece Flake (via BRAINFEEDER) opened my mind, similar to the way Remy's mind was blown in Ratatouille when he was combining flavors of food for the first time.

This beat Flake is bonkers. It opens with chirps of a bird, then from there it's a vortex of all kinds of sounds, sensory distortion and pleasure. The small sequence before the main section of the beat is a jumble of tones, frequencies, static, chimes, dings, synths, minor snare rolls -- so much that helps build Flake its own gloriously messy world. All those random sounds truly made me visualize the music as a pinball machine. And the ball is hitting so many things at once, creating this experimental chaos that is amazing to get wrapped up in. Then Flake flips everything upside down and effortlessly finds this organized sound by fusing in more elements, resembling the score to a video game with the look of a Claude Monet painting. There's so much going on, so many things that come together that shouldn't work but they do. And it's imaginative and beautiful because of it. Jameszoo's unbelievably funky, glitchy space chords moved through the sky. It was something I've never heard before. That 16 bit music underscoring everything in tandem with the snazzy jazz-era keys brought this unexplored sense of adventure that you would think wouldn't exist once you stop being a kid. It had such a gorgeous plush sound. The musical and life possibilities felt endless just as long as Flake is playing. It was absolutely spectacular. A piece of music I won't soon forget or stop listening to.

I come across a lot of beats and many of them are cool, but few are structured this well with such a flawless sound. Jameszoo's Flake is so great to me. I only hope you all see the greatness as well.

Listen to Flake below.
