Chester Watson Puts His Own Refreshingly Melancholy Spin on an Array of Beats with "Phantom on Bandcamp"

You may not have heard of Chester Watson but he's definitely someone you're going to want to remember. The rapper with creativity in spades dropped a new song today and it truly lives up to that description of him.

The track entitled "Phantom on Bandcamp" is executed in a way that I haven't heard before outside of the typical way freestyles are done. The six-minute track rattles off dope beat after dope beat, almost creating mini songs within a song in the process. The only familiar beat Chester spits over is A$AP Rocky's "Goldie". He's able to make it his own quickly by darkening up the sound with his melancholy flow (which I love). I got a true sense of his personality with his descriptions of himself and that spills over into his next verses on the next beats. He has an array of descriptions for his style of rapping, his wordplay gets even more clever and entertaining than what he said in his earlier verses in the song, and the beats are more diverse. Watson raps over very soft waiting room piano before it aggressively transitions into a short psychotic drum break that's backed by extremely anxious horns. It's a very hectic sound that compliments Chester Watson's chill (sometimes disturbed) way of rapping. It's definitely a song that captures the uniqueness in a fun way. "Phantom on Bandcamp" has sounds that could exist in nightmares as well as in the most joyous of dreams. It's a very memorable track for me that I just had to share. I can't wait to hear what's next from the mind of Chester Watson.
