Kyle's Album "Smyle" Surpasses "Beautiful Loser" & Provides Tons of (:'s

Kyle has come a long way from his K.i.D days. The happy rapper (who is way more than that) dropped his sophomore album "Smyle" almost two weeks ago and I absolutely love it. The follow-up to Kyle's debut "Beautiful Loser" did not disappoint and was well worth the wait.

From the jump "Smyle" already brings Kyle's personality out that wasn't as front and center on "Beautiful Loser". The first track entitled "The Force" is filled with Star Wars references, sound effects and drives the message that the world is in his (and our) hands and we can do whatever we want. Kyle relates the ability to do whatever you want in the world to The Force because of the way it can mentally manipulate and physically control anything. That whole message in the song, the Star Wars references and sound effects helps put Kyle's thoughts on the world and general likes in one song and sets up the entire album beautifully.

As the album progresses, you get songs like "Feels Good" and "SummertimeSoul" that come off as failed love experiences to me, especially "SummertimeSoul" (one of the most underrated tracks off the album I might add). I got the feeling that he was speaking to a girl that he couldn't get or got at some point in time and things clearly didn't work; now she's with someone else but from King Wavy's perspective he thinks they won't last the summer and this dude will forget her come winter, vocalized in the chorus. This song was relatable on many levels that brought out how open, real, human and genuine Kyle is. It was a perfect set up for "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" which needs no further explanation. Everything he wants to say is said in the title. The only surprise in "DWFIL", for it is a bit extended. There's an amazing 80's synth-inspired riff at the end of it that I would love to hear get turned into a full song.

The entire first half of the album before the "Deepest Part of Me (Interlude)" sounded like a love story to me. Going forward from the Interlude I got a sense of the album living in the perspective of where Kyle is now. He has more songs explaining why he's happy and why he smiles with his song "All Alright" being the main reason for that theory. The song runs through all of the 'bad' things that could possibly happen to you: from your phone dying to getting a girl pregnant or buying the wrong hat. The message is that it'll be alright because those problems are minuscule. Kyle is able to make being happy and keeping a smile on your face the most important thing and that is what he does best as an artist. He inflects so much emotion into his music and he focuses so much on one particular emotion that he reaches the listener so easily.

"Smyle" is Kyle manifested through music. Each song encompasses his personality and his story, his likes and his pain and his happiness and growth. Everything sounds more cohesive. The production on it is great. I know "Smyle" had to have drawn a ton of inspiration from 80's Synth pop and different sounds around that time, adding to this album's personality. And man, those bonus tracks are amazing. "@FoundBae" (feat. Je$$e) is definitely one of my favorite songs from Kyle ever. "Smyle" is a complete joy from start to finish and I think he did accomplish making this better than "Beautiful Loser". I love both and it fits right into Kyle's already impressive discography. This is one y'all need to hear.
