High Klassified Speaks Volumes with His Extraterrestrial EP "Kronostasis"

I love stumbling upon new music. Whether I'm searching for new artists deliberately or I inadvertently find them, it's always refreshing to expand my musical palate. That's exactly what happened to me yesterday. Thanks to a repost from Mick Jenkins on SoundCloud I came across High Klassified's new EP "Kronostasis" and this has to be the most interesting sounding project I've come across in a while.

High Klassified's five-track EP is almost completely instrumental. The only words on the entire project is from Mick Jenkins on the track "Gold", which is a beautiful song. The beat starts out sounding digitally distorted, then smoothly transitions into this very calming tranquil sound accomplished with awesome drums and dope dream-like chimes backing everything. It all goes well with Mick's verse where I'm positive he's tackling the issue of the appropriation of Black Culture, vocalizing the notion of culture vultures loving our food, style, music but having no love for us. We've created these different art forms and types of expression and put our souls into making it what it is today just to have it taken away and all our involvement brushed under the rug. He uses all that negativity to compare it to the beauty of Black people. By talking about our natural melanin and comparing it to gold. It's beautiful. "Gold" teaches self-love but is still conscious as to what's going on around us by offering an even deeper lesson about Black Culture. I'm absolutely in love with the song.

The other tracks off "Kronostasis" go on like any regular beat tape - purely instrumental, but Klassified's drums are so insane that these tracks have so much personality. "Time In Vain" straight up knocks! This track borderline blew my speakers out and I can never be mad at a song that has the potential to do that. "Time In Vain" is authoritative without having a word muttered on it. "Saccade Two" has that very same affect as well. The snare rolls sound straight off a drumline. If it's truly live instrumentation for that specific piece of the beat it makes the song that much more impressive but if not, nothing is taken away.

High Klassified's "Kronostasis" in its entirety has a cool extraterrestrial sound and atmosphere that stays well within the realm of bangers. High Klassified is definitely the future. This project is beyond dope and has a lot to offer given its length. I think everyone can enjoy this one.
