Mac Miller Drops Off A New Song and Video, Spills His Album's Release Date

In this microwave generation it's easy to say that Mac Miller hasn't put any music out in a long time. The reality is Mac dropped his mixtape "Faces" last year and six projects the year before that (peep his discography) which includes his album "Watching Movies With the Sound Off". Mac Miller has been supplying us with music steadily since 2009 so to say, "Mac Miller's back" with his song "100 Grandkids" is inaccurate.

Mac Miller decided to bless us late last night with the announcement of his tour and new album "Good A.M." (dropping September 18th) and more importantly a new song with a video to go along with it. The track titled "100 Grandkids" in terms of sound doesn't quite have the weird, enchanting, dark and lyrical sound of "WMWTSO" or the sound diversity that the songs off "Faces" had. To me, it meets somewhere in the middle sonically but Mac himself is ahead of both those projects. Miller's focus in the song revolves around money and the importance he put on making that first 100 grand when he was first starting out. His style has once again evolved from anything he's previously done, preserving his Mac Miller essence along the way. So it completely works for him.

I think the visuals he dropped with it explores Mac's early career in an extremely creative and abstract way. The video opens to the start of a children's play. The children perform while the Pittsburgh rapper raps about his grind from his humble beginnings. Right away the kids in the play come across as symbols for his 2010 mixtape "K.I.D.S.". "K.I.D.S. was when a lot of people really started getting onto Mac Miller's music and actually started to watch him, hence the play scenario. As the video progresses, the play ends and it shows Mac leaving the auditorium to go to a parking lot. In the lot his second verse has a different tone. He sounds more confident. He's rapping from the perspective of where he is now now that he's got that money. It's the best part of the song. I like braggy Mac Miller in the second verse; he spazzes a bit and it's a dope Mac moment for this song and video.

This is great lead-in to the album. I know it all won't sound like this so that has me looking forward to the project as a whole. Now we just wait till September 18th to see what he has in store.
