Time To Get On The "Surf" Wave

Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment's long awaited "Surf" is a thing of beauty.

"Surf" is damn near flawless sonically. I've had the pleasure to sit with this album for two weeks now. With each listen it grows more addicting, special and likeable. I loved their use of live instrumentation, combination of Jazz, Hip-Hop and Neo-Soul. It really adds to this album being one of a kind. Its uniqueness, array of sounds and impressive featured artists like J. Cole, Big Sean, and Raury add to why this album can not be categorized.

Everything about "Surf" was a surprise. From the release date to it being free and who appeared on the album. I personally lost it when Erykah Badu showed up on "Rememory." That was a great collab I wasn't expecting and it branched this generation to her music.

"Surf" is the first big album of this year that can make you fall in love with music and just sounds altogether. It really feels like an experimental album but they knew exactly what they were doing and what they wanted. The songs never fall flat. Each song is something new and that should be appreciated.

The song, "Sunday Candy", is one of the high points on this album honestly. It embodies so much from the sound of musicals and just shows the diversity of this album. This is an album you need to listen to and really sit with. The feeling it provokes alone is reason enough. Join the wave and start surfing.
